BETHEL — A grant request to help fund the town’s proposed expansion of Clarke Business Park has been included in a state bonding bill — but the money is not guaranteed.
If the request is approved, though, Bethel would receive about $635,000 — about half of the project’s estimated cost.
“Including our grant in the bonding bill is an important step forward, but there’s still quite a way to go,” First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker said.
The requests still need to be approved by the state Bonding Commission.
“It is my understanding that the governor has full line-item authority over the items in the bill,” Knickerbocker said. “If he feels the total amount to be bonded is too high, he has the authority to remove items in order to bring down the total.”
