Indigo in downtown highlights women entrepreneurs

ROCKFORD  —  A retail space featuring items from women entrepreneurs is opening in the city’s downtown.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday for Indigo, 333 E. State St.

“It will be about 22 women’s small businesses offering items from jewelry to clothing to candles and oils,” Indigo owner Evangelina Jimenez said.

The store will be open between noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Jimenez said she decided to open a store downtown because of the area’s thriving arts scene.

“I feel like downtown is a great place for a habitual community down there,” she said. “Thankfully, the way our arts community is set up, it’s the perfect space for people to walk from City Market and during events like Stroll on State. It’s a really good central location for foot traffic and people who want to see it via social media and want to stop by.”
