Baraka Grocery and Mall has been in business for 20 years. It’s family-owned. They sell groceries and gas. But with North Broadway Avenue closed, it’s harder for people to stop for gas, and that’s hurting the business.
Before construction began, business was good, but now they see about 20 customers a day. It’s not enough and they’re trying to figure out what to do next.
Business owners like Rahma would like to see the city supporting small businesses that are affected by this construction.
“If the government has some budget, it helps us because we have to pay electric, we have to pay rent, we have to pay everything. Nothing stops,” Shakur said.
Here’s what you need to know about this construction project. Starting on Monday, what’s in red will be closed until next month, where the yellow is is where you can travel to reach businesses on North Broadway.
