Sensex, Nifty Firmly Down In Negative Territory After Weak Start

No Comments(RTTNews) – The Indian stock market is down firmly in negative territory Wednesday morning with investors largely making cautious moves as they look for directional clues. Information technology and bank stocks are among the prominent losers. Investors are reacting to earnings announcements from a few leading companies, and data on vehicles sales from automobile manufacturers. The Reserve Bank of India is scheduled to announce its monetary policy on Friday (June 4). The central bank is widely expected to hold interest rate unchanged. The repo rate is currently at 4 percent and the reverse repo rate stands at 3.35 percent. The benchmark BSE Sensex, which tumbled to 51,555.81, is currently down 352.90 points or 0.68 percent at 51,581.98. The broader Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange is down 78.10 points or 0.5 percent at 15,496.75. After five successive days of gains, the Sensex ended marginally down on Tuesday, and the Nifty too closed weak, snapping a seven-day winning streak, weighed down by data showing a significant slowdown in India’s factory activity last month. The Shanghai Composite Index now sits just shy of the 3,625-point plateau and it’s expected to remain in that neighborhood again on Wednesday. The global forecast for the Asian markets roughly flat, with optimism for economic recovery offset by inflation concerns. Ransomware Attack On JBS Likely From Russia

(RTTNews) – JBS(JBSAY), the world’s largest meat supplier who is responsible for almost one-fifth of the meat supplied worldwide, has become the latest victim of a ransomware attack. According to the White House, the attack might have originated from a criminal organization based in Russia. The US Government had its say in the incident as White House principal deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “JBS notified the administration that the ransom demand came from a criminal organization, likely based in Russia” Taking it forward, Karine added, “The White House is engaging directly with the Russian government on this matter, and delivering the message that responsible states do not harbor ransomware criminals.” After the SolarWinds attack and the breakdown of Colonial Pipelines for almost six days, in early May, this attack only bolsters the vulnerability of the large business databases in the country. (RTTNews) – Australia will on Wednesday release Q1 figures for gross domestic product, highlighting a busy day for Asia-Pacific economic activity. GDP is expected to add 1.0 percent on quarter and 0.2 percent on year after rising 3.1 percent on quarter and falling 1.1 percent on year in the three months prior. New Zealand will provide Q1 numbers for import and export prices and terms of trade. Import prices are expected to rise 1.0 percent on quarter after sinking 1.7 percent in the previous three months. Exports prices are tipped to add 0.6 percent after slipping 0.4 percent in Q4. The terms of trade are predicted to add 0.1 percent on quarter, slowing from 1.3 percent in the three months prior. South Korea will provide May figures for consumer prices, with forecasts suggesting an increase of 0.1 percent on month and 2.6 percent on year.
