A longtime South Jersey barbecue business is asking for the public’s help after thieves stole the eatery’s $30,000 smoker.
The unit was taken from Fat Jack’s BBQ on South Black Horse Pike in Williamstown sometime between when they closed for business at 8 p.m. Sunday and reopened Monday at 9 a.m.
It’s built onto a trailer and has to be kept outside. It’s designed to be taken to events.
The smoker was booted and locked, explained owner Glenn Gross, who described the theft as devastating for his business, his family and their dozen employees.
“I can’t make any food. Everything we do mostly, except for burgers and chicken, is smoked,” Gross said. “I can’t have any food ready. It’s a major impact on us. It affects all my employees and their families.”
Just last month, NJ Advance Media’s Pete Genovese ranked Fat Jack’s as number seven among the state’s 32 greatest BBQ joints in New Jersey.
