Jalen Hurts sat patiently as his fellow students filed out of a summer session “Public Relations Leadership” class at the University of Alabama.
Hurts and the other students had just listened to a guest speaker — Dr. Bruce Berger, the former dean of the advertising and public relations department — in adjunct instructor Mark Harris’ class. Berger, according to Harris, is an authority on the subject of leadership in public relations and Hurts wanted to show appreciation for his insight.

After the rest of the class left the room, Hurts, one of the most popular people in Tuscaloosa, Ala., walked up to Berger, shook his hand and thanked him for his time.
