A group of business, non-profit and faith-based leaders are calling on Mobile city officials to slow down and allow for more public input before allocating $58.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds.
The South Alabama Economic Roundtable will call on Mobile city officials to delay for the next four weeks a final budget allocation for the city’s portion of the American Rescue Plan Act that was signed into law by President Joe Biden in March.
Teresa Bettis, a roundtable representative, said in a news release Monday that they want to ensure the distribution of the federal funds abides by the dictates a previous executive order by Biden that calls for “advancing racial equity and support for underserved communities” through the federal government.
