Business owners reflect, offer advice after opening amid COVID pandemic

Renee Hajek was originally planning to open her new business, Stay. Social Tap & Table, before Masters Week in 2020. A global pandemic caused delays in construction, however, and she ended up opening that August. 

Now, almost a year after opening in Columbia County, Hajek said there are a lot of lessons she learned about her first year in business as a self-serving taproom and tapas bar.

“We had lots and lots of kinks. I definitely changed the course several times over these past 10 months but you have to be adaptable as a business owner, as an entrepreneur, you have to be able to change on a dime when you need to,” Hajek said. “We did what we had to do to survive.” 

She said the first couple of months were actually pretty great since her business has a lot of outdoor space available and it’s self-serve and pretty hands-off. However, once it got cold, Hajek said they had to face limited capacity inside the business during the colder…
