Business park to go up on old amusement park site

A North Texas amusement park that entertained thousands of local residents for decades is being turned into an industrial project.

The SpeedZone racetrack and entertainment center closed last year on Stemmons Freeway near Royal Lane. The facility had attractions including go-karts, miniature golf and arcade games.

When managers closed down the operation early last year, they cited a decline in business, even before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now the more than 20-acre site has been purchased by one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s busiest industrial builders. Malibu Industrial LP, a company owned by Crow Holdings Industrial, bought the freeway property this month.

The amusement park was acquired from a California company, county deed records show.

Crow Holdings Industrial has developed more than 30 million square feet of warehouse and distributions buildings in multiple markets.
