China warns Australia not to ‘destabilise global economy’ after Canberra launches blitz on China’s critical minerals monopoly

Beijing has warned the Albanese Government that competition over critical minerals will “destabilise” the global economy as Cabinet minister Madeleine King positions Australia as a resources alternative to China.

The Resources Minister has flagged Australia will prioritise developing its rare earths industry and partnerships to capitalise on its massive deposits.

In a series of events on Tuesday, Ms King flagged a change in focus for the Albanese Government to position Australia as a major exporter of the key minerals in a bid to break China’s stranglehold on the global industry.

“Australia’s critical minerals are at the centre of an important moment in history which could dictate the shape of the world that we will live in for the next century,” Ms King said at a conference hosted by the ANU.
