Community rallies around downtown Wilson business destroyed by fire :: WRAL.com

Wilson, N.C. — A downtown fire in Wilson Wednesday destroyed a tire shop that had been a fixture in the community for more than 40 years.

Despite the loss of their business Wednesday night, the family behind B&S Wholesale Tires says their faith has never been stronger.

Firefighters in Wilson were called to the store after 8 p.m. Wednesday for a two-alarm fire that had engulfed the building.

A spokeswoman for the city of Wilson told WRAL News it took just over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

From across the street, owner Martha Pridgen and her son could only watch as their storefront burned.

“Just lost memories and in shock,” Pridgen said she felt in the moment. “It’s as if, when you know someone passes, and you have that shock.”
