Emily Brashier is one of thousands of Oklahomans who escaped to the great outdoors this past year, and she’s one of many who found themselves camping more this year than ever before.
“I camped in Oklahoma eight times this year. That’s more camping than I have ever done anywhere,” said Brashier, of Norman. “Once I discovered the ease of hammock camping and van camping, I was hooked.”
When COVID-19 restrictions grounded travel plans and social distancing became a priority, many Oklahomans turned to the outdoors. National and state parks experienced a dramatic increase in visitation during 2020 and, for better or worse, camping reservations filled quickly, leaving long waiting lists for spots in their wake.
