“Things just aren’t made the way they used to be.” This may be a cliché, but in the world of furniture the saying holds a lot of truth.
“If you buy new, it’s not heirloom and it’s not built to last more than five years,” says Jason McGinnis, who co-owns Cream City Restoration (201 N. Water St., creamcityrestoration.com) with his wife, Kelsey.
The shop owners pride themselves on curating vintage furniture by designer brands. They collect pieces that are built to last and could be passed down from generation to generation.
Walking through their store – and sprawling warehouse – you’ll see they favor Scandinavian modern, mid-century modern (think looks from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s) and post-modern (the ’80s) pieces.
