Dormant Union County business/industrial park attracting plenty of interest, official says

ALLENWOOD – An industrial/business park in northern Union County has been mostly undeveloped since plans for a hazardous waste incinerator were dropped nearly three decades ago.

That could be about to change, according to Sean McLaughlin, the county’s planning and economic development director.

There is interest in every remaining parcel of Great Stream Commons, the 667-acre park along Route 15 north of Allenwood, he said.

This week it was announced River Run Foods near Northumberland had purchased 43 acres at the southern end of the park for $1.8 million.

The manufacturer of soups and sauces plans to expand and could create 450 to 500 jobs, McLaughlin said he was told.

River Run sells directly to brand owners, wholesalers and foodservice companies.

Last year, Mericle Commercial Real Estate bought 57 acres for $1.1 million. Its undisclosed client could employ more than 100 in a 400,000 square-foot building that is planned, McLaughlin said.
