Fiber line down after truck accident fixed after more than 24 hour internet outage

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Close to 22,000 people in Bend, Sunriver, La Pine and La Center Washington were without internet since late Wednesday afternoon, until early evening Thursday night.

Kit Beyer, director of external affairs and communications for TDS telecommunications, said around 3pm Wednesday, a commercial dump truck accidentally ripped down a fiber cable on Boyd Acres road.

Thousands of homes were left without internet access, along with some businesses.

Chris Morse, employee at US Market off 27th said the store lost internet services around 3:30 Wednesday, and were not able to use their credit card system.

“It’s frustrating but I understand it,” Morse said.  “A lot of people pay with debit nowadays..when that gets messed up it’s just a giant ordeal for everybody.”

He said going cash only has pushed away some customers.
