Laurie Shooltz, 59, owns FreshWater Art Studios. The business is managed out of her house in Sanford, but Shooltz holds classes and events at different locations in the area.
One of the events is “Pinot Noir and Paint,” usually a two-hour class for a group where Shooltz coaches people to complete a painting, start to finish. There’s also a wine tasting. Darlene Anderson often leads the wine tasting portion. She is a wine advisor for Wines For Humanity, a company that was created as a vehicle for non-profits to raise funds.
As an artist, Shooltz likes to work with different media including acrylics, alcohol ink, and unicorn spit (look that up!). She also likes to try new things: metalsmithing, print making, and ceramics.
Shooltz has been selected to participate in ArtPrize in Grand Rapids this fall. She’s working on a series of six paintings based on images captured by the Hubble Telescope.
