Have Employers Lost Faith In Business School?

For some industries, getting an MBA has been a stop along the journey to accelerated career growth and desirable leadership positions. In recent years, there has been more debate amongst employers and employees alike as to whether the MBA is as valuable as it was once thought to be. For employers, hiring MBAs means bringing in well-rounded people who are generally ambitious, analytical, data-driven, and people focused. The general management background gives MBAs a strong foundation for building and leading within organizations. 

Detractors of the MBA degree argue that the degree is expensive and outdated. Another angle exposes the lack of diversity amongst students compared to the working populations they return to. With more MBAs shifting their preference to roles in technology and away from banking and consulting, some companies are urging their employees to forego the MBA in return for leadership opportunities and advancement.
