It was the first joint event between Democratic incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy and GOP hopeful Jack Ciattarelli of the general election. But the two didn’t cross paths.
Instead, both took separate turns pitching themselves to the state’s business community during a two-hour event sponsored by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association.
Ciattarelli worked the room inside the Forsgate Country Club in Middlesex County for the first hour, shaking hands, posing for the occasional photo and telling businesses he’d be the governor who will have their backs.
“We need a governor who is going to celebrate the business community,” he told NJ Advance Media.
“Rarely, if ever, does he do that,” he said, referring to Murphy. “It’s no rhetoric, it’s a fact. New Jersey is the worst place in the nation to do business.”
