MUSKEGON, MI – A local nonprofit is looking to bring new life to Muskegon’s historic Hackley Administration Building, which has sat vacant for the last year after Muskegon Public Schools moved out last summer.
Reset Ventures, a 501c3 owned and operated by Brad and Kathleen Playford, officially signed off on purchasing the Hackley building from Muskegon Public Schools for $1 last month. The nonprofit initially submitted a proposal to the Muskegon Board of Trustees on May 20, according to school board documents.
The new owners plan to satisfy two of the district’s stated goals for the future ownership of the building: preserving and restoring the old building, and keeping the building open to the public in some way.
The Playfords, who own a local business and renovated a former school building in the city, plan to operate the building as a mixed-use facility, with commercial offices, an outdoor beer garden, high-end restaurant and coffee shop,…
