A silver lining has emerged in Clemson and Central in the wake of the pandemic.
Empty storefronts that once housed stores and restaurants, closed by the financial strain of the pandemic, are filling up once more.
Here are a few of three new small businesses, plus one nonprofit — all owned and operated by women of color — coming to Clemson and Central:
Mexican gastropub opens in Central
Growing up in Seneca and Clemson, Damaris Gomez remembered her father could never find the ingredients they used to cook with while living in Mexico, like Epazote, an herb similar to basil.
Gomez and her sister, Karla Ruvalcaba, decided to provide those ingredients at The Mexican’s Seneca location, a specialty grocery store and lunch counter that opened in April.
The sisters are expanding their business this month with The Mexican Gastropub, a full-service eatery aimed at highlighting Mexican cuisine and seasonal flavors.
