During Monday’s Common Council meeting, the final meeting of Mayor Vernon Jackson’s roughly 5-year mayoral career, the board unanimously approved expected financial business.
The first resolution approved previously discussed amendments to the city’s 2022 budget. The amendments included dropping the Police Department’s personal service line by $1,750.70 and raising the Fire Department’s personal service line by $460.98 and the City Engineer’s line by $756.14 so that the three department heads all receive a 3% raise compared to 2021 salaries. Previously, the percentages of their raises were not equal, Jackson said. The mayor did not have the specific salaries available after the meeting. The Leader-Herald will update this article with that information on Tuesday.
In a separate resolution, the council agreed to a $7,500 yearly contract with the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society to take in lost, stray and homeless cats as needed….
