Sawnee EMC will celebrate its 83rd-anniversary of providing power to the north Georgia area on July 16, 2021.
In a press release, Sawnee EMC Vice President of Member Services Blake House touted the radical transformation the company has made since its establishment in 1938
“With its humble beginnings as a small electric cooperative serving approximately 750 members along 163 miles of distribution line, Sawnee EMC has evolved into what it is today, a modern electric utility with more than 360 employees serving over 166,000 member-owners over 11,700 miles of distribution lines throughout a seven-county service area in north Georgia,” House said in the release.
According to the release, today Sawnee EMC is the 3rd largest electric cooperative in Georgia and the 9th largest cooperative in the country.
