Small-business hiring rose in June, CBIZ finds

June was a big month for hiring nationwide, and, according to the latest CBIZ Small Business Employment Index, a solid one for small businesses, too.

Independence-based business services firm CBIZ Inc. (NYSE: CBZ) reported that the index, which tracks payroll and hiring trends for more than 3,600 companies nationwide that have 300 or fewer employees, rose by a seasonally adjusted 0.34% last month.

In a news release announcing the results, CBIZ called the increase “a positive sign of growth for the small business sector and its overarching trajectory for economic recovery.” Philip Noftsinger, a CBIZ executive vice president who oversees the index, said in a statement that the June reading “supports historical trends, as businesses increase seasonal hiring heading into the summer months. The data is also supportive of the broader growth trajectory we have seen as the small business landscape recovers from the pandemic.”
