Small businesses are the biggest victims of ransomware attacks, experts told the Senate Tuesday

Small businesses are bearing the brunt of ransomware attacks, the Senate Judiciary Committee was told Tuesday.
Small businesses make up over half the victims, the committee’s chair Dick Durbin (D-IL) pointed out while Senate Judiciary’s Ranking Minority Member Chuck Grassley put the number at three out of every four:

“Ransomware does not just affect the deeper pockets of large companies like Colonial Pipeline and JBS…. Small businesses already operate on thin margins, and many have been pushed to the brink by the pandemic.”
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said at the Judiciary hearing the problem is worsened since 51 percent of small businesses don’t have any resources for cyber security.
