S&P hits record even as inflation heats up

Panel on today’s markets, jobs, the Federal Reserve and the latest headlines about Jeff Bezos. 

U.S. equity markets rose Thursday as traders digested a hotter than expected inflation reading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 100 points, or 0.34%, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ticked up 0.4% each. The S&P 500 is now on track to close at an all-time high. 

The consumer price index in May rose 5% annually, the most since August 2008, according to the Labor Department. Prices were up 0.6% month over month.

In stocks, GameStop Corp. shares were under pressure after the video game retailer announced plans to sell 5 million shares.
