EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) – This year has been slow for the box office, including at local theaters, but Friday’s theatrical release of Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to break major records that have not been seen since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moviegoers at Micon Cinemas’ Eau Claire location crowded into theatre seats on Friday for a first look at the film.
Micon Cinema General Manager Carlie Rubisch said over 1,000 tickets were purchased on Friday alone and the company expects to sell 4,000 to 5,000 total tickets by the end of opening weekend.
Staff members added that Spiderman: No Way Home has only played in theaters, as opposed to other recent movie releases on streaming platforms, which led to Marvel fans flocking to theaters nationally for an in-person experience.
