St. Mary’s County Sees Job Growth And Businesses Flourish During The Pandemic | thebaynet.com | TheBayNet.com


LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Although many struggled during the pandemic, the director of St. Mary’s County’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) told county commissioners the job growth and business creation bloomed.


The SBDC has aided 189 businesses from July to December 2019 with 29 new businesses created, Wynne Briscoe, regional director of the SBDC said, as reported by the St. Mary’s County Times Newspaper. Last year, the growth was significantly greater as the SBDC served 306 businesses, and they helped create 69 new businesses.


“The businesses were actually growing and thriving,” Briscoe said. “The year prior it was just 33 [jobs created].”


Even though things look bright now, it looked like many businesses in St. Mary’s County were going to meet their demise at the beginning of the pandemic.
