The business has had its share of difficulties hiring and retaining staff since the pandemic began, but unlike many businesses, it hasn’t caused any large problems.
Rumors have swirled online and through word of mouth that the Walmart in Thief River Falls was closing due to a lack of staffing. Those rumors, like many, turned out to be false. However, as also with many other rumors, there was a nugget of truth — its issues finding employees.
Digi-Key, the biggest competitor to Walmart in Thief River Falls, has been averaging approximately 90 applicants per week for its various position openings. Kevin Brown, advertising director, said the issues are definitely present, but that the sky isn’t falling for the business.
